Noses come in all shapes and sizes but they were all made to fulfill on purpose, to smell of course. Smell is said to be the oldest and least understood sense out of all the senses. We do know that smell developed early in evolution and it is directly linked to the brain.

- Early on, neurons were sensitive to certain chemicals ( this is where neuron signals to another), releasing specific chemicals that trigger the next neuron to respond.

- They believe that as evolution went on, the sensitivity to chemicals continued on to the outside environment

Take our pre-quiz and see how much you know about the nose!

The purpose of the human sense of smell has become less defined because through the ages, people have become less dependent. Hence, this may be why we do not know as much about the smell sense.
